The data of Rosstat and tourist offices indicate that Thailand was the most popular destination among tourists from Russia in 2016. About 866.6 thousand tourists traveled to this country, 28% more than in the previous year, according to the Association of Russian Tour Operators (ATOR).
Cyprus, which was visited by 812.7 thousand Russian tourists in 2016, ranked second. The tourist flow from Russia to this country grew by 48% compared to 2015.
The third place in 2016 was occupied by Turkey. The number of Russians tourists since last year decreased by 77% and amounted to 797 thousand.
The popularity of Spain, which took the fourth place, last year grew by 14%. Rosstat recorded almost 790 thousand Russian visits per year.
Greece with 782.5 thousand visits (an increase of 23%) closed the top five of the most popular destinations for Russian tourists in 2016.
