Azerbaijan has become an important country in the region, the head of Dagestan Ramazan Abdulatipov said, speaking at the 7th Azerbaijani-Russian inter-regional forum in Baku.
Noting the importance of the forum’s format, Abdulatipov said that Russia and Azerbaijan are countries that have gone through the heavy post-Soviet crisis.
"I express my gratitude to Azerbaijan’s president Ilham Aliyev,” the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza cited him as saying.
Abdulatipov said both countries pursue their independent policies, noting that Azerbaijan did not back the sanctions imposed on Russia, being its true friend.
