About 30 thousand convicts to be pardoned in Kazakhstan

About 30 thousand convicts will be pardoned due to the 25th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence, the deputy prosecutor general of the republic Johann Merkel said.

The draft law "On amnesty in connection with the 25th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan" was introduced by the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and is currently being discussed by the Parliament. The convicts pardoned include "socially vulnerable categories of citizens, minors, pregnant women, women with minor children, the elderly, the disabled and persons who have committed minor criminal offenses".

It is planned that the amnesty will be held in Kazakhstan in the first half of 2017, TASS reports.
