Academician Jalal Aliyev has died at the age of 87 in Baku after a long and serious illness, APA reports.
Jalal Aliyev was the younger brother of former Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev and Ilham Aliyev’s uncle.
Jalal Aliyev was born on June 30, 1928 in Nakhchivan. He graduated from the faculty of Natural Science of the Nakhchivan Teachers' Institute and from the Biological Faculty of Azerbaijan State University. He was Doctor of biological sciences, professor, honored scientist, effective member of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and actual member of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, external member of Ukrainian and Belarusian Academies of Agricultural Sciences.
He was the author of more than 500 scientific publications, including 20 monographs and books.
Jalal Aliyev was a member of the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, member of the Political Council of Yeni Azerbaijan and member of the Azerbaijani parliament.
The farewell ceremony will be held today in the main ANAS building.
