The situation with depreciation of the lari is mainly caused by agiotage, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili stated.
Yesterday the National Bank of Georgia established an exchange rate of 2.3640 lari for 1 dollar, lowering it by 3.04 tetri. The parliamentary opposition accuses the authorities of inaction, and plans to raise the issue of non-confidence in the Government in the autumn session.
"We have an excess of currency, and it is estimated. Imports fell more than exports. If today agiotage wears off, nothing alarming will happen in the country," the head of the Economy Ministry believes.
