Kazakhstan is disappointed by the defeat of Almaty in the struggle for the right to host the Winter Olympic Games in 2022, but is confident that the city will continue to develop as a sports center of the whole region, and hopes to attract other major events, the deputy chairman of the bidding committee 'Almaty-2022' Andrey Kryukov said.
"While we are disappointed, we are also grateful to the IOC for the opportunity to present our vision to the world. We have been preparing for years to offer our unique and powerful application, and have learned a lot throughout this process," TASS quoted him as saying.
Kryukov assured that work on the transformation of Almaty into a center of winter sports throughout Central Asia will continue. "Our region will continue to benefit from an abundance of facilities for winter sports in our city, and we will remain committed to attracting major events," the deputy chairman of the bidding committee stressed.
