Almost 6000 foreigners staying in Russia illegally after 2018 World Cup

More than 5,000 foreign citizens who came to Russia to the World Cup with Fan IDs are staying in the country illegally, deputy head of the Migration Department of the Russian Interior Ministry Andrei Krayushkin said.

He noted that by December 31 last year, there were a little more than 12,000 citizens who stayed there and did not leave the country, but the FSB’s operation made it possible to decrease this figure to 5,500.

"We are carrying out events aimed at their detection, and I hope that all of them will have been expelled by March 30," TASS cited Krayushkin as saying.

According to the deputy head of the Migration Department of the Interior Ministry, 650,000 foreign citizens came to Russia with Fan ID cards during the 2018 World Cup, but they were mainly law-abiding and left the country in time.
