Andrei Baklanov: goal of terrorists is to discredit European authorities

Advisor to the deputy chairman of the Federation Council, deputy head of the Council of the Russian Diplomats Association, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador Andrey Baklanov, told Vestnik Kavkaza that only together we can defeat international terrorism; even such countries as Germany will not be able to protect its citizens from terrorist attacks by themselves.

According to Andrei Baklanov, these attacks against German citizens were "a natural result of the irresponsible policies of the Western countries in terms of their non-cooperation with Russia in the fight against terrorism and lack of joint actions against terrorism." "Militants from Daesh terrorist group banned in Russia became more outrageous and the international community is still not able to do anything with them," the diplomat stressed.

The expert pointed out that the terrorist activity in Europe requires serious measures here and now. "Alas, such joint actions are not visible. There are only very obscure statements of politicians from European countries, and NATO only continues theorizing the idea of the danger from the East, from Russia. I think that if we do not make serious and effective decisions, the situation will become even worse," he expects.

"In addition, when the situation in general is so nervous due to the terrorist actions, it has a negative impact on the people who are mentally unstable, and these attacks are followed by a number of would-be terrorist attacks. This is an additional factor which testifies the situation in the sphere of the international fight against terrorism is absolutely unsatisfactory," Andrey Baklanov added.

France and Germany were bound to become victims of the first wave of the terrorist attacks, the diplomat believes. "These are big countries with a large number of refugees. In addition, it seems to me that there is a demonstrative effect – to hit those who position themselves as the most powerful states. Thus, they show that these countries, in fact, have nothing against terrorists. The holy places in Saudi Arabia were targeted with the same purpose recently," he said.

"In general, nowadays there is a widespread weakening of the ruling regimes, attempts to discredit the governments. It is surprising that the governments do sound the alarm and do not transform this concern into concrete solutions," the advisor to the deputy chairman of the Federation Council, deputy head of the Council of the Russian Diplomats Association concluded.
