Turkey's Defense Minister Fikri Isik is urging Germany to reject the asylum requests of 40 former Turkish soldiers who allegedly took part in an unsuccessful coup.
Isik said that the soldiers applied for asylum in Germany after being dismissed from the military. "Our expectation from Germany is that they will never accept the asylum requests," he said.
“Cooperation with terror is like being in the same bag as a snake. These 40 people applied for asylum. The German judiciary and German authorities should evaluate this [application] very carefully and definitely not accept the asylum applications,” the Hurriyet Daily cited him as saying.
The minister is warning that bilateral relations would suffer if asylum were granted to any of the soldiers.
