In the Khasavyurt district of Dagestan one militant was eliminated during a gunfight with security forces, a source in the law enforcement bodies of the republic said.
"Around midnight, near the village of Mutsalaul in the Khasavyurt district of the republic, security forces carried out operational activities, during which they encountered a man acting suspiciously. He began to run away from the law enforcement officers and opened indiscriminate fire," TASS quoted the source as saying.
The law enforcement source said that the security forces opened fire in response, killing the man, while they themselves were not injured.
"The deceased was identified as a militant of a local group, Islam Muradov," the source noted.
RIA Novosti writes that Muradov headed the so-called 'Khasavyurt Group'.
