Ararat Mirzoyan elected as Armenian parliament chairman

Armenia's former first deputy prime minister Ararat Mirzoyan was elected as chairman of the new parliament. He was endorsed by 131 lawmakers. One ballot was declared invalid. 

Ararat Mirzoyan was born in 1979 in Yerevan. He is a graduate of the Yerevan State University, where he received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in arts. In 2004 he graduated form the Public Adminisration Academy and a year later he completed a post-graduate course at the  National Academy of Sciences receiving PhD.

Mirzoyan is a founding member of the Civil Contract party. In 2017, he was elected to parliament. After the velvet revolution in April 2018, he was appointed as first deputy prime minister, ARKA recalls.
