Armen Gasparyan: Yerevan's attitude towards Moscow is an outrageous boorishness

Last week, the behaviour of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s team towards Russia became unacceptable for the allied relations between the two countries, since Yerevan openly attributed to Washington Moscow's achievements in normalizing the situation in the South Caucasus, political scientist, historian Armen Gasparyan said in the Formula Smysla program on the Soloviev Live channel, commenting on the actions of the Armenian authorities during the visit of Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to Yerevan.

The host of the program, Giorgi Saralidze, first of all, drew attention to how the arrival of Pelosi set afloat the Russophobic layer of Armenian society. “Pelosi, in my opinion, has already become a kind of “black mark”: she is sent to where problems are expected. Before her arrival, everything swam to the surface in Armenia, even historians were talking about Russia’s historical guilt. It seems that some particular forces were preparing for this moment to adequately meet the US emissary," he said.

Armen Gasparyan, in his turn, stressed that the Russophobia of the current Armenian government is beyond doubt. "Few people doubt the frankly pro-Western, pro-American sentiments of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan. This is a man who was raised by Soros structures, and since then he has never put his priorities aside. Gritting his teeth he had to acknowledge the importance of Russia, given the situation and the overall mood. At the same time, the number of bold statements about Moscow has not decreased in recent months. Once again, now everyone blames Russia for everything," the political scientist recalled.

He noted that the purpose of the US politicians' visit was not to help Armenia in any way: American politicians are engaged in their PR campaign in Yerevan for the US domestic audience. “This is nothing more than a PR campaign by Pelosi herself on the eve of the November elections in the United States. She is interested in attracting lobbying structures that are influenced by a fairly large Armenian diaspora. Pelosi will not do anything without a purpose. A woman of her age won’t waste her energy for nothing,” Armen Gasparyan said.

The expert drew attention to the fact that the authorities used all their resources to express their desire to go West as clearly as possible. ”2,000 people took part in yesterday's anti-Russian rally. This is a complete, total mobilization of all friends and relatives of Pashinyan's associates, and everyone who receives a salary from NGOs. By the way, it is interesting: when there were hostilities with Azerbaijan in 2020, the mobilization did not happen, but they rallied against Russia. Plus, 250 people you spoke about - historians of unclear origin, sociologists, journalists, and so on. All the combat assets," he said.

For Russia, these actions look, of course, unfriendly. “Firstly, once again we see the price of allied statements, unfortunately. Secondly, we have to admit that the problem is not only with extravagant Pashinyan but with a fairly serious rating of his power. There are already outrageous stories when people from Armenia coming to work in Russia are telling that Pashinyan is blood from the blood of the people, wishing everyone well, and only blasphemous evil Russians interfere with the development of a great mighty civilization. I have a question for them: why don’t you want to restore, develop and promote this civilization? - Armen Gasparyan asked a rhetorical question.

The most negative are the official statements of the Armenian authorities. “We heard that the crisis was resolved thanks to the visit of Pelosi. This is outrageous boorishness and vileness. It could be excused if some ordinary citizen made such a statement, but it was made by the speaker of parliament,  Alen Simonyan! It seems to me that it is high time for us to give a serious response. Not to pretend that this is the position of one or two politicians, but rather harshly explain the essence of the phenomenon. Because it all starts to piss me off," the political scientist concluded.
