Armenia and Georgia to deepen cooperation in tourism sector

A delegation of representatives of Georgian travel agencies is in Armenia discussing with local peers development of joint tourist packages, ARKA reports.

According to Mekhak Apresyan, the head of a unit at the ministry of economic development and investment in charge of tourism industry, the purpose of the visit of the Georgian delegation is to strengthen tourism ties between the two countries, to increase the flow of tourists in both directions and to carry out joint projects.

"Although cooperation with Georgia, both at the state and private levels is deepening each year, it is not enough. We need to boost that cooperation. We already have an agreement with the Georgian National Tourism Administration," - Apresyan said, adding that an agreement was achieved also with Iran to form a single trilateral tourism product, involving Armenia, Georgia and Iran.

According to Apresyan, Georgians account for 25% of foreign tourists visiting Armenia and about the same number of Armenian tourists visit Georgia every year.

"In 2015 some 300,000 Armenians visited Georgia. We do not have figures for 2016, but I can say that this year the number of tourists from Georgia to Armenia reduced, due to the regional economic problems. We will do everything possible to increase this number in 2017, "- said Apresyan.
