Armenia’s Ministry of Justice received about 160 pardon petitions, the country's Justice Minister Artak Zeynalyan said at a press conference.
According to the minister, some 115 applications had been processed and submitted to the office of Prime Minister, who is expected to make relevant decisions.
In the near future, the prime minister will set up a pardon commission, which is most likely to be headed by the Minister of Justice.
Zeynalyan added that the ministry received many parole petitions. "So far 387 such petitions were processed, 228 cases were considered by courts and 84 petitions were satisfied and another 144 were rejected," ARKA cited him as saying.
Zeynalyan said that the figures were unprecedented, adding that documents on conditional parole of several life prisoners will be prepared for consideration.
