The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has given a positive assessment of the Armenian Foreign Ministry statement, in which Yerevan declares its commitment to "democracy, fundamental freedoms and human rights," and appealed to the parties not to use violence. This was stated by the official representative of the OHCHR, Ravina Shamdasani.
"We urge the government [of Armenia] to make sure that this commitment will be realized in its response to these protests, and we urge all parties to engage in constructive dialogue and to refrain from violence,’’ TASS quotes her as saying.
