Armenian parliament adopts law on amnesty of traffic fines

Armenia's National Assembly passed the bill on amnesty for a number of administrative fines imposed for breaching road traffic rules.

The country's Justice Minister Artak Zeynalyan said that the law applies to those offences committed before December 31, 2017.

According to him, the fines totaling AMD 13.7 billion ($28.4 million) will be forgiven.

Drunk drivers and those who gave their license plates to other persons will not be pardoned.

The minister said that the decision has been prompted by the reason that many citizens haven’t paid their fines because they couldn’t afford to pay them.

This legislative initiative also implies that those car owners who have paid their fines on time will have another preference – their offices will be nullified. This means that if they breach the traffic rules again, the repeated fine will be imposed as fist one, ARKA reported.
