Armenian president urges political forces to show civic responsibility

Armenian president Armen Sarkisyan issued a statement, addressing the nation on the day when the parliament is set to elect a new prime minister.

"At this decisive moment I call on all members of the National  Assembly, political forces, the entire state system, various strata of our society and the  young people  to show high civic responsibility and wisdom, to stay within the law and the Constitution in carrying out any step and action for our state and people," ARKA cited the statement as saying.

The parliament is electing the prime minister at the moment. However, the Armenian opposition leader, lawmaker with the Yelk faction Nikol Pashinyan, is the only candidate for the prime minister, he still lacks six votes to ensure a simple majority in the election. The Republican Party, which has 58 out of 105 seats in the parliament, has not announced its plans on the upcoming voting. Three parliamentary factions - the Tsarukyan bloc, Dashnaktsutyun and Yelk - have already announced they would vote for Pashinyan. The Republican Party has not nominated its candidate.
