Armenian press review (August 12-19)

The Valery Permiakov’s trial, which started in Gyumri on 12 August, is in the focus of  the Armenian media On the eve of the trial the reporter of Haykakan Zhamanak daily spoke with Rita Petrosyan, who is a sister of Hasmik Avetisyan, one of seven members of the murdered Avetisyans’ family. She said that she will be present at the hearing.

"Immediate family members will be present, but all the relatives are unlikely to be let into the courtroom. We will participate in all meetings," she said. When asked what are her expectations from the process, Rita Petrosyan said: "This process applies only to desertion. Our business is still in the process of translation, and proceedings shall be in the Armenian court, and not the Russian military base."

Hraparak newspaper reads: "A few days public is discussing ‘’certificate of mental disorder’’ of the son of the governor of Syunik. The most serious concerns is spoke out in connection with the fact that this same certificate will give an opportunity to  accused Tigran Khachatryan, often suspected of committing crimes, to avoid answering before the law this time too. It seems that the public did not care who and how  released the son of the governor of the army. People do not even surprised to learn that the cause of the liberation of the army was not a serious mental illness, but a moderately severe neurasthenia.

These days, no one knows where  President Serzh Sargsyan is and what he is doing. In these countries such structures as the Sport and Concert Complex, which is in the public wealth, could not be selled suddenly, without any public discussions to some unknown organization, of which the public have no information, "  the publication sums up.

Zhoghovurd newspaper , referring to the sale of the sport-concert complex, writes: "The Government of Armenia has concluded another dark deal. Previous evening  the government adopted a decision to sell CCM at half price ($ 30 million) to a certain company registered 20 days ago. And to say that this deal is a disgrace means nothing to say. This transaction, in addition to shame, is a classic example of corruption. Otherwise it is impossible to evaluate the transaction that took place, which resulted in a huge state property  to be passed for half of the price to a certain company, which, according to Zhoghovurd newspaper, opened  a few days ago, " the author writes.
