The head of Armenia’s State Revenue Committee (SRC) David Ananyan downplayed allegations of local companies that SRC launched tax terror against businesses, describing them as groundless.
"We fulfill our mission. Taxpayers make their subjective conclusions about our work. We do not use tough administration methods to monitor small businesses," Ananyan said.
Asked to comment on a sudden search at the Russian-owned South Caucasus Railway (SCR) company on August 15 overnight, the committee's head said he could not provide the details as the operation has secret elements.
According to reports by local mass media, masked officers of SRC conducted surprise searches in the offices of the South Caucasus Railway.
"There were no masked people. They waited outside in their cars and only in the end they helped to take the documents to the cars," ARKA cited him s saying.
As for the timing of the search, Ananyan said it was conducted immediately after the court's permission was granted.
Yesterday, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a meeting with the CEO of SCR Sergey Valko. According to an official statement, they discussed current and future plans of the company and ways to improve the efficiency of the company’s services.
