Pentagon chief Ashton Carter has confirmed that he is aware of the Saudi Arabian Defense Minister's statement about the readiness of Riyadh to take part in a ground operation in Syria, local media reports.
"Ashton Carter said that he is aware of the reports of Saudi readiness to deploy troops in Syria", Interfax cited Radio Free Europe as saying.
According to the radio, the minister also confirmed that the coalition’s representatives are due to discuss the issue in Brussels.
At the same time the State Department spokesman John Kirby declined to comment on the Saudi offer.
The Guardian reports that thousands of special forces could be deployed, probably in coordination with Turkey.
