Aslambek Aslakhanov: sambo is developing in leaps and bounds

The sport of sambo in Russia is developing very rapidly, and soon all regions, including the Caucasus, will have their own regional sambo federations, the president of the Association of Law Enforcement Officers of the Russian Federation, Aslambek Aslakhanov, told a correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza on the sidelines of a press conference dedicated to the 14th International Sambo Tournament for the Prizes of Aslambek Aslakhanov.

"Regarding the development of sambo, it is happening in leaps and bounds. Soon, all regions of the Russian Federation will have their own sambo federations," he assured.

Aslakhanov explained that, previously, not all parts of the Russian Federation cared properly for the development of this sport. "Unfortunately, there were areas where sambo was not cultivated. For example, the Chechen Republic has the right to participate in this tournament, that is, it is permitted as a separate team. But for 5-6 years no one came from there, enthusiasts came once, not as a national team, just to compete," the president of the Association of Russian Law Enforcement Officials said.

"And even though the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, gave the command to choose a president, and so that people were engaged in sambo, this sport is poorly developed. At the same time, in freestyle wrestling, in judo, in all kinds of hand-to-hand martial arts, the Chechen Republic has made tremendous progress. But there are some difficulties here. Perhaps it is because of the fact that it is not an Olympic sport," he believes.
