Aslan Aslanov: major media outlets represented at News Agencies World Congress

The News Agencies World Congress is one the most authoritative international media organisations, because major media outlets are represented in it, President of NAWC, Director General of the Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC) Aslan Aslanov said, speaking with the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza, on the sidelines of the 6th News Agencies World Congress in Sofia.

Today, during the opening ceremony of the congress, Aslan Aslanov, whose news agency chaired the News Agencies World Congress for three years, handed over the chairmanship to the Bulgarian News Agency.

"The purpose of the Congress is to determine world information policy and help all those involved. I am proud that AzerTAc chaired the Congress for three years. During AzerTAc’s chairmanship, we were able to raise the status of the Congress, in particular, the Executive Committee which includes the largest news agencies was established. Clive Marshall presides over this committee and he does a great job," Aslan Aslanov said.

"Now Bulgaria took over as its chair, and I can say that there are brotherly, very close ties between the BTA and AzerTAc. Our teams know each other very well and have friendly relations. I am sure that the work of the Congress will reach new peaks during the BTA chairmanship," the Director General of AzerTAc expressed confidence.

Aslan Aslanov noted that he is positive about the admission of small news agencies to the News Agencies World Congress. "During the 5th Congress in Baku, we invited even agencies from African countries that did not have the funds to visit Azerbaijan. AzerTAc always helps all agencies that do not have the capacity, including financial ones, to cooperate. I am sure that the situation will be the same during the presidency of the BTA," he stressed.

The 6th News Agencies World Congress  - the largest platform for discussing the challenges of the new millennium and topical problems of journalism, traditional media and social media in the 21st century - is being held in Sofia on June 13-15. This event brings together experts and heads of world’s authoritative news agencies. TASS and Vestnik Kavkaza news agencies are participating in the event from Russia.
