The process of political settlement in Syria will be started after defeating terrorism, Syrian President Bashar Assad said in an interview with the Italian RAI TV.
"If the Syrian people want presidential elections, there will be no red line against holding them. If the Syrian people want me as president, the future will be good. If the Syrian people don’t want me, and I want to cling to power, it will be bad," RIA Novosti cited him as saying.
"There will be no point in deciding any timetable, because you cannot achieve anything while you have the terrorists in Syria," he said.
The most important part in the Vienna talks, according to Assad, is that "we’re going to sit with each other".
