By the decree of the Head of State, Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, has been renamed as Nur-Sultan city, Kazinform reports citing the Akorda press service.
The decree comes into effect from the date of its first official publication.
Earlier, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the bill on amending to the country's constitution regarding renaming the Kazakh capital to Nur-Sultan.
"I decree to rename the city of Astana, the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan, to the city of Nur-Sultan, the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan," the text of the bill reads.
