Avalanches cut Georgia off Russia

Avalanches cut Georgia off Russia

Traffic of all types of vehicles along the Georgian Military Road has been stopped on the Vladikavkaz - Verkhny Lars section in connection with bad weather conditions on the territory of Georgia, the Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation for North Ossetia reported.

It is reported that 198 trucks are waiting to pass the Russian border. The heating center is working on the Russian territory.

The Department of Highways of the Georgian Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure noted that passage through the Kazbegi-Verkhny Lars checkpoint was closed due to the avalanche threat. The movement on the road's section from Ninotsminda (Samtskhe-Javakheti region) in the direction of the border with Armenia was suspended due to strong wind, snow drifts and limited visibility. In addition, difficult meteorological conditions created problems on the road's section from Akhalkalaki to the village of Kartsakhi (the border with Turkey).
