By 2025, another 20,000 former internally displaced persons (IDPs) are expected to return to the de-occupied territories. This information was announced by the Azerbaijani Presidential Representative for Special Assignments Elchin Amirbayov, speaking at the III International Conference on Mine Action.
He emphasized that the liberated territories had become the site of large-scale reconstruction, with construction being carried out virtually from scratch.
"Work to return about 800,000 former internally displaced persons to their native lands is in full swing. By the end of this year, another 20,000 people will return to the liberated territories, 9 cities will be rebuilt",
Elchin Amirbayov said.
The Presidential Representative clarified that investments in restoration work have amounted to about $7 billion since 2021.
He also spoke about the importance of the process of demining the liberated territories. According to Amirbekov, the Azerbaijani authorities are committed to reducing the negative impact that mines have on the environment, as well as ensuring a safe and "green" future.
