Azerbaijan wins 12 medals at V Islamic Solidarity Games on August 11

Azerbaijan won 12 medals in one day at V Islamic Solidarity Games on August 11, including three gold medals, three silver medals and eight bronze medals.

Thus, Azerbaijani national team has 7 gold, 10 silver and 8 bronze medals - 25 medals in total. Azerbaijan ranks fourth among the 56 participating countries. 

Azerbaijani freestyle wrestler Leyla Gurbanova (53 kg)  won a gold medal, Azerbaijani freestyle wrestlers Islam Bazarganov (61 kg) and Gozel Zutova (72 kg) won silver medals, Azerbaijani freestyle wrestler Asgar Mammadaliyev (70 kg) and Tetiana Omelchenko (62 kg), Qadzhimurad Omarov (79 kg) and Osman Nurmagomedov (92 kg) won bronze medals.

Azerbaijani artistic gymnast Ivan Tikhonov claimed the men`s vault gold and the horizontal bar bronze. Azerbaijani gymnast Nikita Simonov won silver medal in men's ring exercises.

Azerbaijani female taekwondo fighter Minaya Akbarova (46 kg) won a silver medal.

Azerbaijani female weightlifter Nazila Ismayilova (45kg) has claimed a bronze medal.

V Islamic Solidarity Games are taking place from August 9 through 18. In total, athletes from 56 countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation are participating in the games.

The IV Islamic Solidarity Games is a multinational, multi-sport event that was held in Baku, Azerbaijan from May 12 through 22, 2017. Previously the event has been held in Saudi Arabia in 2005 and Indonesia in 2013.
