Azerbaijan and Europe should focus on overcoming current challenges and creating future prospects, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Kingdom of Belgium, Fuad Isgandarov, said.
"We remain focused on the bilateral format of cooperation, where both parties can exercise equal partnership and accommodate mutually agreed priorities of cooperation," he said in an interview with EurActiv.
The diplomat said that Azerbaijan has expressed its clear and firm position on the future of the EU-Azerbaijani relations even before the negative resolution adopted by the European Parliament on Baku.
Isgandarov said there are some trends negatively influencing bilateral relations.
"Unfortunately, some EU institutions have transformed constructive dialogue into a lecturing monologue. But we are not students. That’s why Azerbaijan’s parliament decided to entirely suspend its cooperation with the European Parliament," he said.
According to the Ambassador, Azerbaijan is a more secure place to live than most European countries.
"We demonstrate our full, real and clear support for the anti-terrorist activity of our Western partners. It is a challenge for the young secular Muslim state, but this is our choice," the Azerbaijani diplomat noted.
"Friendship is not a 'glass of water', which could be half full or half empty depending on the situation. It should always be full of confidence and trust. That is our approach. We expect the same from our European partners," Trend cited Isgandarov as saying.
