Yerevan refused to recover the bodies of their servicemen, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said.
Azerbaijan has provided ideal conditions for Armenians to recover the bodies of their servicemen. Nevertheless, Armenians are not active in searching for those who was killed, thereby showing that they are not interested in handing over the bodies of the servicemen to their families. Possibly, those bodies left by Armenians on the battlefield are the bodies of the terrorists conscripted as 'volunteers', Trend reports.
The Armenian side does not care about the initiative of the international mediators and feeling confident of their impunity, openly take steps that lead to more tension.
"Despite the agreements reached earlier to hand over the body of an Azerbaijani serviceman, Armenia's refusal to do so shocked the mediators on both sides of the frontline," the Defense Ministry noted.
"Armenia also ignores the repeated warnings from the mediators about prohibition of taking photos and videos while recovering the bodies of the servicemen from both sides. The Armenians do it covertly and then share those materials on social networks. Those materials were deleted only after Azerbaijan voice protest to the international mediators," the report says.
Recall, on the night of April 2 all frontier positions of Azerbaijan were exposed to heavy fire from large-caliber weapons, mortars, grenade launchers and guns. In addition, Azerbaijani settlements near the front line, densely populated by civilians, were shelled.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20% of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US, are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
