Large-scale command and staff military exercises, which are being conducted under the leadership of Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov, started today in Azerbaijan, the Defense Ministry's press service announced.
The exercises will end on September 13. They involve up to 65 thousand soldiers, 700 armored vehicles, more than 500 rockets and artillery units, 40 planes and 50 helicopters of the Air Forces, 20 ships and boats of the Navy, and in addition – air defense units and air defense compounds, which have advanced anti-aircraft systems.
The main objective of the exercise is to check the combat readiness and combat capability of the armed forces. "In the course of command and staff games, they will carry out the tasks of bringing the troops to full combat readiness and regrouping, maintaining defense, preparation and conduction of counteroffensive operations, encirclement and destruction of the enemy," TASS quoted the message of the Ministry of Defence.
