Azerbaijani MFA rejects another slanderous statement by Armenia

Azerbaijan resolutely rejects the totally unfounded and slanderous statement of the Armenian Foreign Ministry around the situation in Azerbaijan's Karabakh, according to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry's statement.

"We are reminding the Armenian side once again that comments by Armenia regarding the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan are an attempt to interfere in Azerbaijan's internal affairs, and a violation of international law. For Armenia, which held part of the Azerbaijani territories under occupation for about 30 years, and subjected to ethnic cleansing of over one million Azerbaijanis, it has apparently become a habit to breach international law," said the statement.

According to the ministry, accusing Azerbaijan of failing to implement the trilateral statement as of November 10, 2020 [between Russian, Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders following the Second Karabakh War], Armenia violates the provisions of the joint statement and strikes at normalizing relations between the two countries, despite the opportunities for cooperation in the region after the end of the conflict.

The ministry stated that it was Armenia that continued its open territorial claims against Azerbaijan in the post-conflict period, and raised this issue in every statement made at the level of the Foreign Ministry. It was Armenia that, contrary to paragraph 4 of the trilateral statement, hadn't yet withdrawn the remnants of the Armenian armed forces from the region. The country kept sending its troops to the region via the Lachin corridor in violation of paragraph 6 of the statement. This fact was also been confirmed by the international media.

"We would like to emphasize that the demand of the Azerbaijani side doesn't concern citizens of Armenian origin living in Azerbaijan's Karabakh, but the remnants of illegal Armenian military units, as envisaged by the trilateral statement. The Armenian Foreign Ministry's deliberate distortion of this issue under the guise of 'ethnic cleansing' exposes Armenia's true intentions," added the agency.

On what basis is Armenia, which has blocked the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) of Azerbaijan for nearly 30 years, committed ecocide and prevented the visit of international missions to Karabakh, now making an appeal to the international community?! Armenia must understand that ensuring peace and stability in the region depends only on the unconditional implementation of all the provisions of the tripartite statement, the ministry stressed.

As for the issues related to the Russian peacekeepers temporarily stationed on the territory of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan provided detailed information, the statement said.
