Azerbaijani Parliament urges international organizations to make Armenia to return body of soldier

Azerbaijan’s parliamentary Committee on Human Rights has sent an appeal to international organizations over Armenia’s reluctance to return the body of the Azerbaijani soldier killed during a provocation at the Azerbaijani-Armenia state border on Dec. 29, 2016.

“The Republic of Armenia, which has been keeping 20% of Azerbaijani territory under occupation for more than 25 years, continues to violate international law. Armenia’s refusal to return the body of Azerbaijani soldier Chingiz Gurbanov, who was killed fighting to prevent an Armenian diversion group from violating Azerbaijan’s state border on December 29 last year, is a clear example of it," APA cited the statement as saying.

"We consider that the international community must pay a reaction to the inhumane acts of the Republic of Armenia for ignoring international law, the 12 August 1949 Geneva conventions on protection of war victims, and other international acts, and must at the same time find a solution to this problem. Azerbaijan’s parliamentary Committee on Human Rights calls on concerned international organizations to take immediate actions and increase pressure on Armenia to return the dead body of the Azerbaijani soldier," the statement reads.

The statement was sent to all the international organizations, including the OSCE, the Council of Europe and the ICRC.
