Azerbaijani President hold talks in London

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has arrived in the United Kingdom.

As part of his visit, Ilham Aliyev met with Chief Executive Officer of BP Robert Dudley in London today. The sides exchanged views on the work carried out under the Shah Deniz project, as well as the opening of the TANAP project this June. They also noted the importance of speeding up works under the production sharing agreement signed on the Shafag-Asiman structure.

In addition, Ilham Aliyev and Robert Dudley hailed the current level of long-term cooperation between Azerbaijan and BP.

Azerbaijani President also met with Minister of State for Europe and the Americas at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom Alan Duncan in London. The British minister congratulated Ilham Aliyev on his re-election as the president of Azerbaijan and wished him success in his work.  

Duncan stressed that Ilham Aliyev’s re-election will ensure the continuation of Azerbaijan’s rapid development. They also discussed bilateral and regional cooperation and other issues of mutual interest.

The sides also exchanged views on the negotiation process for settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. 

President Aliyev also met with British MP, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Azerbaijan Bob Blackman, member of the House of Lords of the United Kingdom, Lord David Evans, and member of the House of Commons, Deputy State Minister for Northern Ireland David Morris.

The British parliamentarians congratulated the him on his victory in the presidential election. David Evans and David Morris reminded that they monitored the electoral process in Azerbaijan, and noted that the election was held at a high level. President Aliyev expressed his gratitude for the congratulations, saying that all conditions were created for a free, transparent and democratic presidential election.

At the meeting, it was noted that sustainable development was ensured in Azerbaijan. The sides further discussed cooperation with groups of friendship with Azerbaijan, operating at both chambers of the British Parliament.
