Azerbaijani sportsmen become victors of the first day of the Baku 2015 European Games

On the first day of the Baku 2015 European Games, the Azerbaijani team has won one victory after another. Thus, Azerbaijan wad triumphant in the karate and Greco-Roman wrestling competitions.

Rasul Chunaev, gold medalist in Greco-Roman wrestling in the weight category up to 71 kg at the Baku 2015 European Games from the team of Azerbaijan, noted in an interview with Vestnik Kavkaza that he believed he could win this competition.

"Because I performed on the first day of competitions, that is why I had the desire to win the first gold medal for my country on the first day of the competitions. And I did it. I am very happy," the athlete said.

According to him, now the coach will decide whether he will perform in the next part of the competitions.

Rafael Agayev, the karate champion at the Baku 2014 European Games in the weight category up to 75 kg, noted that "first place was very hard to win, my opponent was very strong, we know each other very well, pay attention to the other athlete’s technique."

"It was my dream to come first. I have won and am very happy,"  the champion said, adding that he will continue his training: "I want to become a five-time world champion. We’ll see.’’

The Games in Baku will determine the destiny of the karate athletes, who are waiting for their sport to be included in the program of the Olympic Games.

"Today the Olympic committee was here, they said that if all is well, in 2020 karate will be included in the Summer Olympics in Tokyo. I really want to perform there, and will continue training in order to win there, too," Agayev added.
