The magazine Engineering News Record (ENR) in its third ranking of the best construction projects put the Olympic Stadium in Baku in first place in the category 'sports facilities'.
The Thornton Tomasetti company nominated it for this competition.
The construction of the Olympic Stadium, which is located on the eastern shore of Lake Boyuk-Shor in ySabunchu district of Baku, started on June 6th 2011 and was completed on March 6th of this year. Its total area is 50 hectares.
In June the stadium hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the first European Games, as well as athletics competitions. In 2020 it will host matches of the European Football Championship, Sputnik Azerbaijan reports.
