The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway will be operational since October 2017, the President of Kazakhstan Railways JSC Kanat Alpysbaev was told during his working visit to Azerbaijan and Georgia.
During his visit, Alpysbaev held talks with Turkey's Minister of Transport, Maritime and Communication Ahmet Arslan and Georgia's Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Giorgi Gakharia. They discussed the issues of further development of cooperation in the field of railway services.
The peak capacity of the BTK will be 17 million metric tons of cargo per year, with initial stage projections of one million passengers and 6.5 million metric tons of cargo, Trend reported.
