In a phone call, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov congratulated UNESCO's new Director-General, Khaled El-Enany, on his appointment and wished him success in his new role.
Both officials acknowledged the strong existing partnership between Azerbaijan and UNESCO and expressed a shared commitment to further strengthening it. They highlighted Azerbaijan's active role in global diplomacy and intercultural dialogue, reviewing specific Azerbaijani initiatives and UNESCO's corresponding plans.
Furthermore, the importance of the new Director-General's work to strengthen trust in UNESCO and prevent politicization of its activities was emphasized during the conversation.
Concluding the call, Minister Bayramov detailed several major international events scheduled for Baku in 2026, including the 13th World Urban Forum, the Baku Process, and the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, inviting the Director-General to participate.
