Today Baku hosted festive events on the occasion of the national holiday of Azerbaijani people – Nowruz. They were, according to tradition, attended by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva.
The President and First Lady first arrived at the square in front of Maiden's Tower, where children in national costume gave the Azerbaijani President festive khoncha, and expressed their congratulations on the occasion of the Nowruz holiday to Ilham Aliyev and Mehriban Aliyeva.
Children in national costumes performed dances on the square, sang songs, praising spring and Azerbaijan. President Ilham Aliyev lit the Nowruz fire, then made a speech.
The festive events were also attended by the Prime Minister, Artur Rasizade, the chairman of the Milli Majlis, Ogtay Asadov, the head of the Presidential Administration, Ramiz Mehdiyev, and other officials.
