The 55th Annual Convention of the World Boxing Council (WBC) opened in Baku with the participation of 25 famous boxers, including Evander Holyfield, Vitali Klitschko and Kostya Tszyu, the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza reported.
According to Azerbaijan's Minister of Youth and Sport, Azad Rahimov, it's no coincidence that the current convention is being held in Baku, as Azerbaijan makes a very big contribution to the development of modern sports.
"President Ilham Aliyev does everything possible to develop all sports, and this congress demonstrates this again. We try to popularize boxing and do everything possible to develop it," he noted.
Vitali Klitschko expressed his gratitude to the Azerbaijani leader. "I want to thank President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev for assistance in organizing this important event, I have never seen such a modern sports infrastructure as here in Baku. It is a very unusual event," the boxer said, adding that he wants to meet with Azerbaijani athletes.
