The 5th Global Baku Forum dedicated to the theme 'The future of international relations: Power and interests' opened in the capital of Azerbaijan today.
Nearly 300 representatives from 53 countries will attend the forum.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will address the opening of the forum. Russia will be represented by former director of the Foreign Intelligence Service Vyacheslav Trubnikov, TASS reported.
Among them are President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis, President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović, Albanian President Bushar Nishan, Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov, Georgia's President Giorgi Margvelashvili, Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia, Herzegovin Mladen Ivanić and other politicians.
The forum was organized by the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, with support from the State Committee on Work with Diaspora. The Nizami Ganjavi International Center is a non-governmental organization engaged in promotion of the ideas of dialogue, tolerance, mutual understanding between peoples.
The main topics of discussions will be issues related to the current system of international relations, threats and challenges the world faces.
The forum will last until March 17.
The first Global Baku Forum was held in 2013 bringing together number of influential political leaders and statesmen.
The Club of Madrid, which brings together over 80 ex-presidents and heads of state democratically elected around the world, was one of the initiators of creating the forum.
