An international conference on assistance to Syria and neighboring countries is taking place in London today. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon met with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and discussed the resumption of talks in order to resolve the conflict in Syria.
The UN Secretary-General noted in his speech the positive role that Tehran can play in achieving a truce and delivery of humanitarian assistance to the population. However, he regretted that the intensification of aerial bombardments, as well as procedural issues forced him to temporarily postpone the Syrian talks. He also stressed the necessity to restart these talks later this month and the importance of the upcoming meeting of the International Group on Support of Syria in Munich, Tass reports.
