Belgium is ready to take on Britain's rotating six-month EU presidency in 2017 after London announced it would drop out in order to focus on its Brexit negotiations, the Belgian Foreign ministry spokesman Didier Vanderhasselt said.
"Belgium is ready to take over this presidency if we are asked," he said.
"Britain will no longer take on the rotating EU presidency as planned next year, surrendering the role in the wake of the Brexit vote," the UK Prime Minister Theresa May’s office said earlier.
Britain was due to take it from July 1 until December 31, 2017.
