Berlin announces upcoming easing of sanctions against Moscow

Russia's desire to resolve the Ukrainian crisis may lead to an easing of the sanctions imposed against it by the European Union over the next year, the Minister of Agriculture of Germany Christian Schmidt stated in an interview with the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung newspaper.

"We see that Russia aims at resolving the situation in Ukraine, so the sanctions can't be maintained forever. I think some changes will happen next year," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

The minister did not rule out the possibility that the Russian food embargo, imposed in response to Western sanctions, could be reviewed.
