According to the inspector general of the Bundeswehr, Volker Wicker, Berlin is about to send about 1200 servicemen to Syria.
"From the military point of view, about 1,200 soldiers are needed in order to maintain aircraft and vessels," Interfax - Azerbaijan cites his interview for Bild am Sonntag.
The operation may turn out to be the largest foreign mission of the Bundeswehr. "The government expects to receive a mandate this year,'' Volker Wicker said, adding that the operation is to start immediately after his order.
