CIA director holds "secret" talks with Pashinyan and Secretary of Armenian Security Council

On July 15, a meeting was held in Yerevan between the Director of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) William Burns and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

The parties discussed issues related to international and regional security, as well as the fight against terrorism. Burns and Pashinyan also touched upon the processes taking place in the South Caucasus, Sputnik Armenia reports.

The day before, the CIA director met with Secretary of the Security Council (SC) of Armenia Armen Grigoryan. The main topic of the meeting was the issue of further development of relations between Armenia and the United States.

The press service of the Security Council reported that during the conversation, Armen Grigoryan told the CIA  director about the security atmosphere in the region, and also presented the existing challenges and Armenia’s approach to establishing peace in the region.

The ministry noted that the parties discussed the negotiation processes between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkey, Interfax-Azerbaijan reports.

Earlier it was reported that CIA Director William Burns arrived in Yerevan on the morning of July 15. At the same time, the US Embassy in Yerevan did not cover or announce the arrival of Burns in the republic. He is expected to hold a series of high-level meetings in the Armenian capital.
