CIS Commanders of Border Troops thanks Baku for hospitality

Azerbaijan has hospitably hosted the meeting of the CIS Council of Commanders of Border Troops, the Chairman of the Coordination Service of the CIS Council of Border Troops Commanders Alexander Manilov said, the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza reports.

"Yesterday, upon the arrival of the delegation to Baku, its members were immediately received by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, who highly appreciated the activities of the CIS Border Troops and the Council of Commanders. He drew attention to the need to unite the efforts of all border agencies in strengthening border security at external borders. He also stressed that only through joint efforts, we can provide a barrier to all illegal actions at the state border, including such threats as terrorism, illegal migration and drug smuggling. The most important thing in his speech was that law-abiding citizens should have a right to move freely across borders, and those who try to violate the state border should be stopped and detained," he stressed.

"Therefore, I would like to thank first of all the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on behalf of the members of the Council of Commanders, as well as thank our colleagues from the State Border Service. And all the commanders of border troops noted the Azerbaijani land's hospitality," the Chairman of the Coordination Service of the CIS Council of Border Troops Commanders noted.

"Today, the 78th session of the CIS Council of Commanders of Border Troops was held. The representatives of eight Commonwealth of Border Agencies took part in the meeting, nine issues on strengthening border security on external borders of the CIS member states were on the agenda of the meeting. Twenty-five documents were signed," Alexander Manilov said.

"The majority of the documents concerned the outcome of discussions on the situation at the borders of the two countries, including the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan where there can be threats to the security of CIS countries. The sides agreed to cooperate and exchange information in the field of border security," he said.

The Russian Border Service deputy command added that the parties discussed organized crime, drug trafficking, migration processes at borders and other issues. The parties also raised the issue of training military officers in educational facilities in the CIS zone.

The Council also summed up its 25-year activity. "The Council of Commanders celebrated its 25th anniversary on July 6, 2017. The Coordination Service was established on October 9, 1992, the Council of Commanders - on July 6, 1992. The permanent representatives of the CIS states highly appreciated the activities of the Council's leaders and outlined a number of measures to further improve our work," Alexander Manilov said.

"Two scientific and research works were carried out in 2017, three more were completed. Further training and retraining of officers in the CIS space was discussed. We also discussed issues related to special border operations, summed up the results of operations that took place in 2017. The commanders expressed their satisfaction with the measures taken," he pointed out, adding that in 2018 there will be two more border operations in the same areas with the organization of Belarus and Kyrgyzstan.
