COVID-19 lethality amounts to 3.3% - 5.1% in Russia in 2020

Lethality of the coronavirus infection in Russia by early January 2021, depending on the calculation method used, was in the range from 3.3% to 5.1%, according to the calculations based on the data of the Federal State Statistics Service published on Monday and the information on incidence reported by the federal anti-coronavirus crisis center.

By early December, it amounted to 3%, if one considers only those cases when the coronavirus became the primary cause of death (including the presumed ones), or up to 5%, if one counts all the deceased with a positive test for the presence of the coronavirus even if it hasn’t influenced the fatal outcome, TASS reported.

According to the data of the anti-coronavirus crisis center, by early January, this indicator was about 1.8%. This is related to the fact that the crisis center uses only the primary statistics and considers only those cases when the coronavirus as a cause of death was immediately confirmed.
