"Caucasian Games" start in Dagestan

Today Makhachkala will hold the 6th Festival of Culture and Sports of the peoples of the Caucasus 'Caucasian Games', which has been taking place in the North Caucasus republics since 2009.

During the event, demonstrative performances of traditional sports of the republics of the North Caucasus Federal District, a cultural program with the participation of creative groups, exhibitions of national handicrafts and works of painters will take place.

Just like last year, the athletes will compete in 12 disciplines: athletics relay race, armwrestling, tug-of-war, rope climbing, walking on stilts, distance carrying of heavy loads, weight-lifting, hopping biathlon, power-lifting, archery, mini football and belt wrestling, YUGA reports.

The main part of the sports program of the festival, as well as its opening, will be held at the 'Trud' stadium. The Games organizers have prepared a large cultural program with the participation of creative collectives. During the festival, exhibitions of national handicrafts and works of artists from the subjects of North Caucasian Federal District, as well as other events will be held. The best vocal and choreographic collectives of the North Caucasus will arrive in Makhachkala – 'Vainakh', 'Alan', 'Kabardinka' to participate in the festival.

The Games will end at 19:00 in the hall of the Maxim Gorky Russian Drama Theater, with the closing ceremony and award presentation for the winning republic.
