Cavusoglu: Syrian regime poses no threats to Turkey

Syrian President Bashar Assad’s regime is not posing any threats to Turkey, the country's Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said.

According to Cavusoglu, if the threats for Turkey are posed from the Syrian government army, Ankara’s goal will be to fight against Bashar Assad’s regime. "Our target could be the Assad regime if they pose a threat against us. Currently, the main threat is coming from the PYD," the Daily Sabah cited him as saying.

Speaking to private news channel NTV, Çavuşoğlu said Turkish military would enter Afrin if faced with an armed escalation regardless of the source of such threat.

"Threats for Turkey are coming from Afrin. We may enter this region without a warning," Cavusoglu said. "If we carry out the operation there, we will agree on all its aspects with our allies, including Russia."
