The Moscow House of Nationalities is holding the third day of the international scientific conference titled 'The Centennial of the Russian Revolution of 1917'.
The conference was organized by the Departments of History and Political Science of MSU, the Institute of History, the Department of Political Science of the St. Petersburg State University, the Russian Historical Society, the Russian Society of Political Scientists, the Faculty of History and Philology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the State Historical Museum of Russia, the Moscow State Pedagogical University, the Faculty of the Humanities and Arts of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Institute of History of NAS of Belarus and Mogilev State A. Kuleshov University.
Deputy Dean, Academic Secretary of the Faculty of History of Moscow State University, Head of the Diaspora History Laboratory, Associate Professor of the Department of History of the near abroad, Chairman of the NGO 'Belarusians of Moscow', candidate of historical sciences Oksana Solopova, speaking to Vestnik Kavkaza, noted that holding such a conference is aimed at restoring the previous scientific and historical ties that existed in the USSR.
"We are perfectly aware of meaning of the revolution for many now countries, which are independent, but before were the republics of the USSR - for many of them it created the opportunity to form their own statehood, and gain independence after 1991. Of course, there was a break in scientific and humanitarian ties. Therefore, we, the Moscow State University with support from the Department of national policy and interregional relations of the Moscow government and the Moscow house of nationalities, conduct activities focused on integration of the multiethnic community of Moscow citizens and those countries, diasporas of which live in Moscow and Russia," she said.
Oksana Solopova stressed that the conference showed that people are willing to discuss to work out a common position. "Despite all these gaps, the humanitarian environment continues to unite our countries, unite our scientists. We all speak the same language. Russia is a platform that gives the opportunity to a wide variety of people to address, which is worth a lot. Such humanitarian measures show true democracy, the true scientific approach that prevails in our country," the deputy dean of the History Faculty of Moscow State University pointed out.
"We have a big delegation from Belarus who came here on the eve of the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia. It also shows the staples that are fundamental, like our round table. And if even such polemical issues unite us, then nothing can separate us," Oksana Solopova concluded.
